What is the fdf Endorsement Service?
fdf offers an Endorsement Service to higher education providers and sector skills bodies.
The fdf Endorsement Service has been designed, and is operated, by fdf, in collaboration with sector bodies. The Service:
- provides information and guidance to education providers, employers and sector bodies to facilitate the development and delivery of quality work-based learning, higher education provision
- assists higher education providers in evidencing and demonstrating that their work-based learning programmes (particularly Foundation degrees) meet employer and sector needs
- highlights innovative practice in higher education level work-based learning
The Service is based upon an extensive pilot that was very positively reviewed by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education. This highlighted the quality, effectiveness and value of the service.

How can the fdf Endorsement Service help my organisation?
The fdf Endorsement Service sends a clear signal to employers, sector bodies, commissioners and potential students that a work-based learning, higher education programme has been designed in accordance with good practice.
For education providers:
- it informs the development of quality programmes
- it provides a unique opportunity to externally showcase the many innovative ways that an institution has developed provision to meet workforce development requirements
- the endorsement quality mark on course and marketing materials presents a distinctive indicator of programme quality for potential students, employers and employer bodies
For sector bodies:
- endorsement provides a vehicle to promote and embed sector specifications
- it demonstrates good practice in incorporating these into education provision
- it highlights the success of the sector strategy in meeting employers’ requirements

TDA Endorsement Process for the IQF: HE for School Support Staff
The fdf Endorsement Service is assisting the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) in their consideration of eligibility of higher education providers and their programmes for inclusion on the Integrated Qualifications Framework (IQF).
