Advising working people: Career progression through work-based HE
A NIACE one-day training course
Tuesday 14 December 2010
Birmingham
NIACE offers practical one-day training courses which focus on the skills needed to advise people effectively about learning and working in a range of settings. This day focuses on meeting the needs of working people who want to take up work-based or work-related higher education opportunities. The day will be highly participative and activity-based with plenty of opportunities to explore ways that working people can access higher education and how advisers can help them to choose the most suitable options. Resources developed by fdf (see www.fdf.ac.uk/advisers), NIACE and partner organisations, unionlearn and Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) will be explored.
By the end of the session participants will be aware of:
• The information and advice requirements of working people who want to take up higher education opportunities
• Resources that will help meet those requirements
• The range of progression routes available to working people
• Foundation degrees as a work-based work-related option for adults
• The role of employers in supporting employees to take up higher education opportunities while working
