Research Comissioned by fdf

fdf has recently published the findings of several major research projects.

Learning, juggling and achieving:
Students experiences of part-time Foundation degrees

Professor Mantz Yorke (University of Lancaster) and Professor Bernard Longden (Liverpool Hope University) were commissioned to undertake a research project concerning part-time Foundation degree student perceptions and experiences.

This report, published in January 2010, presents the outcomes of a survey of 474 students who were engaged on part-time Foundation degree programmes in 31 institutions.

Review of Research Literature Focussed on Foundation degrees

This extensive review of research focussed on Foundation degrees was undertaken by Professor Lee Harvey on behalf of, but independently from, fdf. The review was published in July 2009 and provides an up-to-date compilation of a substantial amount of material on Foundation degrees. It also provides a basis for an agenda for future research work.

Career decision-making and career development of part-time Foundation degree students

fdf has commissioned Professor Clare Callendar (Birkbeck), in partnership with HECSU, to develop a longitudinal survey analysing the career development of Foundation degree graduates.  The findings of the initial stages of this research were published in March 2010 and provide invaluable evidence relating to the perceptions of employers and Foundation degree graduates. The ongoing longitudinal study will eventually provide evidence of how Foundation degrees influence career development.
